What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word meaning "Universal Life Energy."
Reiki is a form of energy healing. You can use it on yourself; on other people, plants, animals, etc.
Where does Reiki come from?
Dr. Mikao Usui was a Christian minister who taught
classes in a university in Kyoto Japan. He is credited with introducing what is now known as
traditional Reiki in the mid-late 1800's. Dr. Usui was questioned by a student who asked him
about the Bible story of Jesus saying "all these things I do, you can do also,
and more." The
student wanted to know why Jesus said that, and yet Dr. Usui could not demonstrate how healing could be
done. Since Dr. Usui had great faith in the Bible's words he resigned on the spot. He spent the next several
years on an intensive search for the answer to the students question.
He was able to find the answer to the students question and developed what is now known as Usui
Reiki.
Can anyone learn Reiki
Anyone can learn Reiki and it is not dependent upon whether the person receiving Reiki believes it will
work or not. Reiki is effective even when a person is sleeping or unconscious.
How does Reiki work?

Reiki speeds up the healing process and supports the body's natural abilities to heal itself.

It cleanses toxins from the body, and in
so doing boosts the immune system.

It also balances energy in the body and
revitalizes the body and mind.

Reiki is known to reduces
stress and provide calmness.

added benefit is that it helps alleviate
pain.
What does a Reiki session feel like?
A Reiki session is done with your clothes on. Your
Reiki practitioner will have you lie down, or be seated comfortably in a chair. Very gently, your
practitioner will place his or her hands on your body. They will
usually stay in that position for 3-5
minutes. Sometimes, his or her hands will be near your body, but not actually touching it. The
positions generally start at your head and end at your
feet. Your practitioner can explain what you should expect from your session. Always feel free
to ask questions. Treatments and Attunements can be given in person and are also very effective over distances!
What is an attunement?
An attunement allows the Reiki
student to learn and use Reiki energy. Everyone has this ability to use universal
energy, a Reiki Attunement signifcantly enhances it. Attunements are
very effective even if sent long
distances.
Is Reiki a Religion?
Reiki energy is spiritual in nature, Reiki
is not a religion. Practitioners are not asked to change any religious or spiritual beliefs they may
have. They are free to continue their beliefs as they choose and are encouraged to make their own
decisions concerning their religious practices.
How is a Reiki treatment given?
In a standard treatment Reiki energy flows from the
practitioners hands into the client. The client is usually laying
down. Treatments can
also be given with the client seated or even standing. The client will
remain fully clothed. The
practitioner places his or her hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. These positions
generally start at your head and end at your feet based on the clients needs. Each position is held for three minutes
or longer depending on how much
Reiki the client needs at each position. The entire treatment usually
takes between 45 and 90 minutes.
Does one have to stop seeing a regular doctor in order to receive a Reiki treatment?
No, Reiki works in conjunction with regular medical treatment. If one has a medical or condition, it is recommended
they consult a licensed health care professional in addition to
receiving Reiki treatments. Reiki energy works in harmony with other forms of healing, including
drugs or surgery, or any other method
of alternative care to improve the results.
Can I treat myself?
Yes, once you have
received the Reiki attunement, you can treat yourself as well as others. This
is one of the most unique features of Reiki.
How many levels are there in Reiki training?
In the Usui/Tibetan system of Reiki there are four levels. These include levels
one, two, three, and and Master.
Can I treat animals or plants?
Animals love Reiki. They seem to have a natural
understanding of what Reiki is and its benefits. Once a pet has received a Reiki treatment, they will often
let you know that they want more. Plants also respond well to Reiki.
Can you get more than one attunement?
When you receive a Reiki attunement, it will last
your whole life. However, if you get additional attunements for the same level, it will
help to refine
and strengthen your Reiki energy.
What is lineage?
Reiki is a technique passed on from teacher
to student again and again. If one has Reiki, then he or she will be part of a secession of teachers
going back to the founder of the system of Reiki they practice. In the case of Usui Reiki, the lineage
leads back to Dr. Usui.
